Cassidy Bednark aka DJ Bedz "The White Shadow" was born in Colorado in 1975. After growing up in Boulder, he ventured out to Los Angeles, California to attend Occidental College in 1994. Shortly thereafter Bedz received a turntable as a Christmas present from his mother and started to DJ as a hobby. Practice led to landing Greek events and house parties. With his degree in Music Composition, Bedz moved back to Denver, Colorado and began recording and selling mixtapes and CDs as a promotional vehicle.
Actively involved in the local mixtape scene, Bedz distributed his mixes at several local retail outlets and began to garner attention from club promoters, other DJs, and listeners. He landed his first few steady club residencies, including a job at a popular teenage nightclub where he was put in charge of producing the radio commercials. The prevalence of those radio spots helped him to expand his reach even further.
DJ Bedz, with a pivotal endorsement from DJ Chonz, transitioned from a weekend mixer at KQKS/KS107.5 to becoming the official DJ of the Denver Nuggets in the 2002-03 season. Concurrently, he elevated his music career, expanding the reach of his mixtapes, earning recognition on MTV's "Mixtape Monday," and gaining permission from Digital Underground to release "Scratchwutchyalik" as the first official DJ Bedz Mix CD in retail. His talents extended beyond the turntables, as he ventured into radio syndication and even worked alongside the NBA, making ten appearances at the All-Star Game. Bedz's remarkable journey also led him to become the first DJ from Colorado to be featured on BET's "Rap City." His influence expanded further as he produced old-school and hip-hop mixes for the Zeo Radio Network, broadcast on various radio stations nationwide.
In 2008 DJ Bedz entered and won the Pepsi Superstar DJ Competition, landing him an honorary spot on the Pepsi DJ Division. This led to Bedz being offered a weekly slot on XM Satellite Radio's Raw 66. Unfortunately this was perceived as a conflict of interest at KQKS which meant the end of his tenure with the station. Bedz quickly landed on his feet where he was offered a position on a daily mixer at Denver's KONN/Hot 107.1 . His radio responsibilities grew when was also asked to produce mixshows for KIBT/96.1 The Beat in Colorado Springs Colorado and KDGS/Power 93.5 in Wichita, Kansas.
With his long time friend David Jacobson/Deuce assuming the role as programming director of Denver's KPTT/95.7 The Party, Bedz made the jump to KPTT as the featured mixer and part time on-air talent in 2010. Bedz soon found his way onto the airwaves in Colorado Springs where his mixes could be heard weekday nights. In 2011 Bedz was invited to provide music for the Arab Games in the country of Qatar where he was the DJ for Weightlifting and Fencing. In the year 2012 DJ Bedz was invited to become the DJ for Football & Men's Basketball programs for the University of Colorado Buffaloes. Bedz was featured both as a DJ and an in-arena host. Then in 2013 DJ Bedz was asked to become a DJ for the NFL's Denver Broncos, with the responsibility of mixing during the player warm-up portion of the home games at Mile High Stadium.
In 2016 DJ Bedz took his first ever full-time job in radio, Midday host at Denver's KFCO/Flo 107.1. His program includes the daily feature the "Floback Mix @ Noon" which was honored at the 2017 Colorado Broadcasting Awards. DJ Bedz was invited to be the DJ for Men's Basketball at the 2016 Olympic Games as well as the DJ for Wheelchair Basketball at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Bedz also served as the Men's Basketball DJ for the 2019 Pan American games held in Lima, Peru. Accolades continued to roll in for DJ Bedz during this time period, with Westword nominating him for "Denver's Best Hip-Hop DJ" for an eighth time.
In 2007 DJ Bedz decided to start giving 100% of the proceeds from his mixtape sales to Safehouse Denver Inc., a non-profit organization committed to helping Women and their families from domestic violence. In 2013 Safehouse Denver asked him to serve on the honorary board of directors for Safehouse. Additionally, Bedz has organized countless 3rd party fundraising events to benefit Safehouse. In 2018 Safehouse Denver awarded DJ Bedz with the Susan Noble Community Impact award to commemorate his lifetime contributions.
Bedz got married in 2017, he and his wife Madisson live with their son Jaxson in Highlands Ranch. DJ Bedz now works full time as a real estate agent for Century 21 Elevated here in the greater Denver Metro area.
